We meet again Monday night for reflections, reverie, and to share our feelings about the Climate Crisis, which may include the related subject of Covid 19 this month I imagine!
This will be our fifth meeting out of the six meetings that we set when we started out. It has been a very helpful group to be part of, but what is our future?
I have a million ideas which mercifully have calmed down while being in lockdown.
One quite easy one is to join Ora Taiao, NZ Climate and Health Council. I plan to suggest NZAP joins at the next NZAP Council meeting. Ora Taiao have said they would very much welcome having mental health experts like NZAP supporting their advocacy considering the mental health impacts of the emerging climate chaos.
Us continuing to meet and feel the “love and rage” could add depth of feeling and psychological understanding to the discourse if some of us were interested in writing more. I personally have felt in this group that a month is too spaced out and takes us off the boil. Additional regular meetings for people interested in writing, running reverie groups or other actions could be very helpful. After this group ends one option is to open the group outwards; advertise it more widely and highlight that people are welcome to drop in as a once off. Perhaps the group wants to stay more closed or even just end as planned. I invite you to give it some thought. The group is more helpful when we keep close to feelings so if you would like to offer some input I invite you to comment below or write to me.
Hi there, Thanks I felt connected again after our Monday night sharing. I want to share an initiative from Community Taranaki which is a book club small group reading and discussion of Paul Hawken’s latest book Regeneration. His book is a how to adapt to the realities of the climate crisis. Here’s a link to an interview with Paul Hawken.
